On World Ocean Day I’m very excited to share this recent commission I have made and why I chose to be involved in this awareness raising photo project.
So a bit of backstory… Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin have partnered with Project Seagrass, an incredible charity very close to my heart. I was asked to take photographs in our UK waters that helps to show the beauty of our seagrass meadows. The aim is to raise awareness of why seagrass is so important and to celebrate this new partnership between Hendricks gin and Project Seagrass.
Why is this underwater plant so important? Seagrass meadows around the world provide food and habitat for thousands of animal species, capture carbon at a rate greater than that of tropical forests, and provide vital nutrition for close to three billion people. However, up to 92% of the UK’s seagrass has shockingly been lost over the last 80 years. This isn’t discussed enough and not enough people are even aware that it’s happening.
In homage to beautiful UK coasts, Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin is supporting Project Seagrass, an organisation dedicated to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems. Hendrick’s will help provide Project Seagrass with the capacity to scale up their operations sustainably and deliver on their ambitions.
I have followed the work of Project Seagrass for many years and I have enjoyed Hendrick’s gin for even longer! So this was a dream project to work on.
